About Echo
Echo wasn’t just a dog, he was the heart behind everything we do.
Fiercely loyal, endlessly loving, and full of spirit, Echo was more than a companion, he was family. He lived with purpose and passion, competing in Protection Sports Association (PSA) and actively training to become a narcotics detection K9. Whether he was on the training field or out exploring the world, Echo gave his all to everything he did.

But it wasn’t just about the work. Echo was happiest swimming, hiking, chasing his favorite ball, or simply spending time with his people. He had a way of making even ordinary moments feel special. He was our adventure buddy, our protector, our shadow, and above all, a beloved family member.

In the prime of his life, Echo was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM)—a silent and often fatal heart disease that disproportionately affects Dobermans. Even though he tested genetically clear for both DCM1 and DCM2, he still developed the disease, proving just how complex and unpredictable DCM can be.

At the time of his passing, his heart was still relatively not enlarged, but the disease had already caused severe ventricular arrhythmia, that led to sudden cardiac arrest. Despite our efforts and his strength, we lost him far too soon. Losing Echo changed everything.

It opened our eyes to how little is known about this disease, how many others were suffering the same heartbreak, and how urgently more research and awareness is needed. From that pain, The Echo Foundation, Inc. was born.

This foundation exists in Echo’s honor. We are here to fund critical research, support the veterinary and scientific community, and fight for a future where no family has to endure this kind of loss without answers.
